about

Live recording of Ingrid Plum's performance at the concert Sounding The Great Hall on 7th February 2015, in the Great Hall, Goldsmith University of London.
Following in the footsteps of John Cale, Plum returned to Goldsmiths, where she studied her Masters, to perform using the Great Hall as a giant reverberation chamber, installed with an 18 multi channel set up for the occasion which included 2 sub woofers. Singing into the piano at the start, Plum weighted the suspended pedal of the Steinway Model D Grand Piano and used 2 x AKG 451 microphones to record the sound of her voice resonating the harmonics of the Steinway's strings. Plum then diffused this into the 18 channel speakers in the hall and in turn recorded the reflected sound, repeating this last step in the style of Alvin Lucier with creative diffusion to explore the resonant frequencies that emerged. The sounds and reactions of the audience are recorded and add to the layers of sound triggering more frequencies as the piece builds.
