Alter-Native

from Unsung - Early Works 2002 - 2012 by Ingrid Plum

/

about

The sound design for the video documentation of the installation and performance of "Alter-Native", a durational large scale installation and performance commissioned by Metahub for Shunt, London 2008. Plum asked fellow exhibiting artists to contribute words in the native tongue to describe their own work, forming these into a soundscape that played back in the space where the words were written on hundreds on tags hanging from the ceiling. Plum performed a slow motion movement and vocalisation of the texts for a durational performance of 2 hours. During this performance Plum used the physicality of the performance under bright lights, dressed in flesh coloured costume with the words written on her, to break through physical and mental barriers in performance.
